A home stylist has shared the simple things you should do in lockdown, ranging from deep cleaning your washing machine to giving your houseplant a ‘shower’.

Liz Amaya, from Brisbane, offered the cleaning routine she swears by to ensure she has a streamlined home every week.

One of the things she does was water her fiddle-leaf fig in the bathtub to thoroughly remove the dust and dirt that may have accumulated on the leaves.

‘Give indoor plants a shower,’ she said in her video on Instagram.

To deep clean the washing machine, she simply added half a cup of bicarb soda to the washer and half a cup of vinegar into the detergent compartment.

Then she ran her machine on empty at the hottest setting.

Liz’s simple cleaning routine 

1. Clean windows and glasses with DIY spray of vinegar and water

2. Give your indoor houseplants a ‘shower’ in the bathtub. This will remove dust and dirt that may have accumulated on the leaves

4. Wipe down picture frames and artworks 

Her video has since been viewed more than 28,000 times, with many said her tips were a ‘excellent reminder’ to deep clean areas they haven’t cleaned in a while.

While others said they never thought to drench their indoor greenery in the bathtub, with many saying it’s a ‘fabulous idea to shower the plants’.

‘Oh I never thought to stick my fiddle leaf in the shower – thanks for the tip,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Love the indoor plant tip – they collect so much dust and it is so easy to shower them.’

And one added: ‘I love the way you cleaned your fiddle! I have to try that,’ while another said: ‘Oh I love the plants in the shower one haven’t thought of that.’
